itSMF Belgium and a TexBrit

So imagine it is Friday and after a long week of work all you want to do is go home, have a glass of wine, enjoy friends and family because your other alternative is to go to hear someone speak on KPIs.  No brainer, right – off home you go!  Well, I was pleasantly surprised at the number of people that came and listened, asked questions and remained afterwards for dinner and discussion.  Most notably I was quite overwhelmed at the warm reception by all so my thanks to itSMF Belgium for hosting a brilliant event.

My session on Indicators of Performance that are KEY is quite important and dear to me.  As an ex-IT Director and now a consultant-coach for business leaders using technology, metrics allow me to help guide individuals, teams and organisations to go from good to great.  Don’t get me wrong, I do not want a culture of metrics but I do believe that if you have 1 or 2 organisational goals to which each layer can align, then at least everyone can appreciate their effort and help keep things on track.  KPIs are best created by the people that will be using them to consider daily if they need to adopt a new approach or direction.  I also feel that the way we visualise our KPIs is helpful to highlight issues quickly so others can help us get back on track.  In this regard I like using just Red and Green, no Amber, on my reports or dashboards.

Have fun with KPIs!  Use them to drive collaborative communication and engage trust.  Use them to do better, faster, safer.  Thanks itSMF Belgium and I hope to see you again!

Kind regards
